What it comes down to is there’s this weird gulf between us that didn’t used to be there with SW before. But even then, its “refill at a station” health system is a big damper on pacing, and lack of modern multiplayer support removes one of the game’s most attractive aspects. Thanks to the Bad Batch, I’m betting Republic Commando is the game that’s he’s most likely to take a chance on. And IMO, the game doesn’t start to shine until the galactic map opens up, which takes way too long for an impatient player. Plot wise, KOTOR is obviously the standout, but the graphics and relatively rigid gameplay systems are showing their age. I also expect that if I did recommend a title to him, he’d be critical of its plot in reference to the new material. I don’t think Jedi Outcast is that game, thanks in large part to stuff like Nar Shadaa. So, in the back of my mind, while I play old SW titles, I’ve been trying to gauge if there’s a title from “the before times” that would help open his eyes to what the older titles had to offer. I know he’s interested in games, though, because we’ve had conversations at length about him 100%ing the Arkham series, and he’s played Battlefront ‘17.

I think it’s because the graphics were showing their age. If he can’t remember what happened in a film, he crosses it off the list so he’ll have to rewatch it.) I mention this because he happened to watch me playing the opening cutscene of Shadow of the Colossus (original, not the remake), and… he didn’t get that it was a game with cinematic aspirations.

He keeps a list of every movie he’s ever watched. So anyway, he’s also -as far as I can tell- kinda prudish about old video games, despite being a huge movie buff. I think he’s missing a bigger picture in the scope of SW’s evolution and what used to be the “spirit of the franchise,” if you will. When I speak with him about SW, I used to use the EU as a frame of reference of “here’s how I think this would be a nice thing for the new stuff to reference or draw inspiration from” until he straight up told me he didn’t care about the old content. I have a friend who is really into Star Wars, but only the canon stuff.
